Described as "a superb singing actress," and as “a possessor of a generous dramatic soprano instrument and passionate acting skills,” soprano Alexandra Lang is rapidly gaining recognition for her musical integrity, distinct vocal color and versatility. A native of Atlanta, she currently resides in New York City. Her first Ariadne with Utopia Opera was described as "satisfyingly lush to the ears." Recent operatic roles include the title roles in Donizetti's Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda, and Puccini's Tosca, Donna Anna and Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Leonore in Beethoven's Fidelio, the title role in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos and Chrysothemis in his Elektra, and Gerhilde in Wagner’s Die Walküre.

Ms. Lang has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera Guild, the Boston Public Library, The Great Hall at Faneuil Hall, Jordan Hall, the Dimenna Center for Classical Music, Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center, and Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. She has performed with the Mostly Modern Festival, Marquette Choral Society, Dramatic Voices Program Berlin, Promenade Opera Project, New Camerata Opera, the NEMPAC Opera Project, New York Opera Forum, New York Conductors Symphony, Utopia Opera, Peach State Opera, Nevada Opera, Cantanti Project, the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, New York Lyric Opera Theatre, and the New York Opera Exchange Orchestra.

In the 2017-2018 season, Ms. Lang made her first appearance with The Metropolitan Opera Guild, performing excerpts of Mimì in Puccini’s La bohème. Recent seasons have included role debuts of Rosalinde in Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus, Chrysothemis in Richard Strauss' Elektra, and the title role in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, all with New York Opera Forum. The subsequent season, the soprano sang her first Tosca in concert at The National Opera Center and joined the Martina Arroyo Foundation on tour as Gertrud in Humperdinck's Hansel & Gretel. In addition, she attended the Dramatic Voice Symposium in New Orleans to coach Wagnerian repertoire with world-renowned bass-baritone Greer Grimsley.

Following her debut in the title role of Massenet’s Manon at Opera in the Ozarks, Ms. Lang quickly moved into more dramatic repertoire, appearing as Lady Billows in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring at the NAPA Music Festival and as Fiordiligi in Mozart's Così fan tutte on tour in Georgia. She is an avid interpreter of contemporary music, having sung the title role in Tom Cipullo’s Lucy with Nevada Opera, Ms. Hufstedler in the world premiere of Milton Grainger's Angry Birdsong in Atlanta, and creating the role written for her, Sibyl Vane, in Jeffrey Brody's The Picture of Dorian Gray in Boston.

She has sung the National Anthem at Boston's historic Fenway Park and was an original co-founder of the New Camerata Opera in New York. In early 2020, Ms. Lang made her first appearance with Underground Salon NYC, where critics took note of her “impressive vocal effects including a lovely liquid trill and a stunning climax.”

No stranger to the classical world's evolving online scene, she was involved with several virtual projects during the pandemic. Ms. Lang was featured in the title role in Promenade Opera Project's virtual production of Beethoven's Fidelio. She joined Christman Opera Company online for their Voices Raising Voices initiative, a project committed to engaging artists of color, women, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, performing a piece by Canadian pianist and composer Maria Thompson Corley. Alexandra was a guest soloist on the VOICES Music Series: Winter Edition, presented by Cambridge Public Library. She was also presented in recital on Sparrow Live, featuring works by Respighi, Strauss, Barber and Rachmaninoff. Later that year, Alexandra launched her passion project, LITER ABEND, a joyful and intimate celebration of German Lied, for which she received a City Artists Corps Grant, sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts. The project continues, with a rotating guest artist for each performance or “volume.”

2022 began with a recital in Eureka Springs, Arkansas at Opera in the Ozarks on their Alumni Recital Series. May took her to Michigan's Upper Peninsula where she joined Marquette Choral Society for their 50th Anniversary Celebration as the soprano soloist for Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. Ms. Lang spent that summer in Saratoga Springs, NY, where she performed Maya in the Mostly Modern Festival’s inaugural operatic production: Robert Paterson’s The Companion at Arthur Zankel Music Center. She also joined Berlin Wagner Group for their US concert debut, "Wagner’s Ring in One Evening,” singing excerpts of Woglinde, Gerhilde, and Sieglinde. The soprano closed her summer performing schedule with more Wagner, making her role debut as Gerhilde in Die Walküre at the Wagner in Vermont Festival with TUNDI Productions, where she also covered Woglinde in Das Rheingold. Last year, Alexandra covered the title role in Puccini’s Tosca at Angels Vocal Art in Los Angeles and returned to the Metropolitan Opera Guild for Bellini’s Norma on their Masterly Singing Series at Lincoln Center.

Up next, Ms. Lang will appear as the soprano soloist with New Jersey’s New Sussex Symphony in May, singing selections from Strauss’ Op. 10 and all of Op. 27. Upcoming performances in New York City include an all-German recital with pianist and composer Felix Jarrar, with a world premiere written for the soprano, and Volume III of LITER ABEND. Next season, she will debut her first full Verdi role: Amelia in Un ballo in maschera.
